Regional Management and Administrative Skills (RMAS)

In a Training Needs Assessment Survey, an initiative of the Administration Department, conducted during the October 2004 Pastors’ Congress the following were what the respondents identified as key areas they needed to be trained in:
  1. Planning ability
  2. Analytical ability
  3. Investment in subordinates; people management
  4. Controlling ability
  5. Communication skills: verbal expression and written expression

This list of training needs perceived by the pastors reflects what the observers of the present state of Christian leadership also say. That is, that church leaders may be spiritually gifted but may be organizationally challenged.

RMAS Parts 1, 2, and 3 is a response to the training needs listed above.

The three parts of Regional Management and Administrative Skills (RMAS) training programs, in workshop format, aspire to arm the participant-pastors with the basic tools of management balancing personal development skills and organizational development skills.

The three parts follow through each one thus building on the knowledge learned in previous sessions.

Serializing RMAS addresses major post-training concerns of skills and non-skills programs which could be one of the following or a combination of them:

  1. The sustainability of the positive effects and even the transformations during and immediately after the sessions;
  2. The translation into observable behaviors of the knowledge acquired;
  3. The need for affirmations and positive reinforcement for the proper applications of learning; and
  4. The forum to share victories as well as difficulties in spite of training.

OBJECTIVES OF RMAS 1 (for the Regional Pastors, the Area Pastors and the Church Pastors): After the three-day workshop the participants will be able to:

  1. Compare the difference between leadership and management and the skills attendant to both;
  2. Assess their strengths and weaknesses in these two skills;
  3. Use basic management skills that will help them in their administrative functions;
  4. Apply these skills in their personality and organizational development;
  5. Compose a re-entry Action Plan using actual developmental and performance goals they will draft during the workshop; and
  6. Actually raise their leadership-management lid.

OBJECTIVES OF RMAS 2 (for the RPs, the APs, and the CPs): After the two-day workshop the participants will be able to:

  1. Evaluate their application of the management process covered in RMAS 1;
  2. Measure their actual performance vs. their objectives;
  3. Experience an actual and systematic performance and operations review; and
  4. Be proficient in the use of the Performance Appraisal Form.

OBJECTIVES OF RMAS 3 (for the RPs and APs only): After this three-day workshop the participants will be able to:

  1. Build on the learnings from RMAS 1 and RMAS 2, specifically coaching or mentoring or shepherding;
  2. Know the guidelines to becoming a Shepherd-Leader;
  3. Contribute to the further growth of their partner-workers, of themselves, of their areas of accountability and of their organization;
  4. Turn from a good to an outstanding Leader-Manager; and
  5. Support JIL 12’s need for superior Shepherd-Leader managers.
