The year 1983 was a turbulent year under the Marcos dictatorship. Dissident groups and street parliamentarians were fighting tooth and nail against the Marcos regime to break the chain of martial rule. It was one of the darkest periods in the annals of Philippine History. But it was also the year that the wind of revival was sweeping mightily across the nation. It was the time that the JIL Church was growing in leaps and bounds. It used to hold its Sunday services at the Araullo High School campus ground where tens of thousands of believers were in attendance. It was in one of these Sunday Services that a former Marxist bank officer from Pampanga came to know the Lord. On fire with his new-found faith, he shared the gospel to his family, friends and acquaintances. Soon, he formed a group of seven persons and started holding a bible study under a guava tree at Sitio Camansi, Dolores, San Fernando. The bible study grew fast in numbers, and its leaders started to look for a place to accommodate the growing membership. The Dolores Elementary School opened its doors at JIL. It was during this time that the name of JIL spread like wildfire. People who watched Bro. Eddie on television learned about the JIL Outreach in Pampanga and started attending its Sunday Services. About this time, the Sta. Ana, Minalin, Macabebe, Betis and Guagua Outreaches were born. JIL Pampanga was on its road to success. But unknown to JIL, a religious and political conspiracy was brewing. A Romanist group plotted to evict JIL from the school, using its resources and influence among barangay officials and school authorities. And on that fateful Sunday in January 1986, the doors of the Dolores Elementary School were closed to JIL forever.
The JIL people were like lost sheep. They had no place to worship. A kind pastor from another church offered their place as they were then preparing to relocate to Mexico. JIL grabbed the opportunity and it has found a new home at the second floor of Gopiao Bldg. It was at this time that the Ministry experienced a tremendous growth. The membership had reached to more than a thousand, which was considered by many as a remarkable feat for a three-year old church. Outreaches were established one after the other. Age groups like the Adult, Young Adult, Youth and Children Ministries were formed to cater to various age brackets. A short-term School of Ministry was offered to provide trainings for leaders and would-be pastors. The JIL had been on the forefront in crusades and evangelistic campaigns around the province. The Christian community was enthralled at its phenomenal rise to the top. In a span of 5 years, the building could no longer contain the Sunday attendees. The place had been jam-packed with people. In a bold step of faith, the ministry procured a 2,000 square meter lot in Barangay San Agustin, on an installment basis. The JIL people had to build a makeshift building as a temporary worship center.
The year 1991 wasn’t exactly a great year for JIL. The eruption of the Mt. Pinatubo scattered the members to different provinces. Attendance in Sunday Services dwindled considerably. When the province was recovering from the scourge of nature, they have returned to their folds. And this time, they were twice doubled in number. The worship center was erected. The JIL Christian School opened its door to the public. Christians and non-Christians alike have availed of its educational programs. A prospect of a bright future lay ahead for the ministry. Though JIL was at the forefront in crusades and evangelistic campaigns around the province, the pastors have come to terms with reality that these weren’t enough to bring unsaved souls to church, so they employed the cell group system. This proved to be a wise decision, as families were too happy to host cell groups in their homes. Sure enough, JIL cell groups sprouted like wild mushrooms throughout Pampanga. Other churches took notice. They wondered how in the world JIL cell groups have saturated the barangays in every town. Upon learning of the system, they have also decided to adopt the latter in their programs.

Next in the offing was a bible college. JIL pastors had been looked down through the years because they had never been to formal bible training centers. Rev. Alexander O. Garcia, Pastor Mark Punzalan and Pastor Joel Cruz have gone through a year-long of rigorous and grueling training at the International Bible College at the JIL Church in Bunlo, Bocaue, Bulacan to seek further education and learn the rudiments of running a bible college. The JIL International Bible College (IBC) Pampanga was opened to pastors and ministers in June of 2003. The Nehemiah building, which houses the JIL IBC, has seen its completion in September of 2006. It has been formally launched and inaugurated last September 17, 2006 as the JIL Pampanga Training Center (JILPTC) with none other than our very own Spiritual Director, Bro. Eddie C. Villanueva and Executive Director, Dory Villanueva in attendance.

Today, JILC Pampanga has more than 6,000 memberships. It has now 21 churches/outreaches and 19 extension services. It has a reported total of 616 life groups. It has a worship center and operates a Christian school and a bible college. It has also launched its Children’s Church last February 3. It has also been involved in various community services around the province like the medical and dental mission, relief-giving and feeding programs. By God’s grace, JILC Pampanga has come a long way. It is now, indeed, a far cry from its humble beginning twenty-four years ago.
