The year was 1978 when JIL-Mandaluyong began its ministry. Although it was a tough time to pioneer a Christian church, by God’s grace and guidance, JIL-Tanglaw Home Church in Sgt. Bumatay Street was established in 1979. It was Bro. Eddie C. Villanueva himself who headed this home church, with the assistance of Pastor Dino Tobias. Fridays were highly anticipated by members since Bible study meetings were held then.
During the early part of 1985, JIL-Mandaluyong belonged to Area 5, together with JIL-San Juan, JIL-Pasig, JIL-Cainta, and JIL-Pateros. The brethren from said places had monthly gathering and fellowship at Sambahayan Condominium in Boni Avenue. As an offshoot, JIL-Mandaluyong home churches from different areas of JP Rizal, Nueve de Pebrero, Blumentritt, Pinagtipunan and Welfareville were organized. “Coordinating Centers” at Countryside and Hulo were also established where trainings and seminars were conducted for church workers and volunteers. The late Bro. Jun Gardon, a sub-district coordinator, became a significant part of the pioneering years of this ministry.
JIL-Mandaluyong’s first Midweek Service was held in 1989 at Panaderos Extension. Scheduled every Wednesday, from 7pm to 9pm., it was led by Bro. Arnel Ondrada who now lives in Austria. After a year, Pastor Raffy Armia was appointed as the district pastor of Mandaluyong and San Juan. Sunday Service then was held at Panda Restaurant along Boni Avenue. It was under the leadership of Pastor Raffy Armia when different ministries such as the Adult, Young Adult, and Youth were organized to best cater to the specific needs of each age group.
In May 1990, Pastor Raffy Armia left for Saipan where he was assigned to minister. After two months, Pastor Jun Sibanico served as church overseer. It was in May 1998 when Pastor Cannie Villar, from Makati district, was appointed head of JIL-Mandaluyong. It was during her time when JIL-Mandaluyong had its many firsts such as Medical Mission, MCD Sports Tournament, and Couples Fellowship Night. From then until now, these special projects are annually being done by JIL-Mandaluyong.
