A Testimony of a Miracle:

God speaks and we are healed

Nine years of being a born again Christian made Sis. Delia Valdeabella immerse herself in the daily meditation of the Bible.

Six-and-a-half hours of humble “conversation” with God made her understand the miracle power of His spoken Word.

An unusual dizziness and headache prompted Sis. Delia to ask for help to be brought to the hospital on November 1, 2005. At her age, then 53, it was her first time to even think of going to the hospital, and it never crossed her mind that she’d be hospitalized in a foreign country. Sis. Delia arrived in Toronto as an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in 1990. In 1996, she came to know the Lord Jesus Christ through the Toronto Church of the Jesus is Lord (JIL) Church – Canada Chapter. Since then, she has been a faithful ministry worker.

The thought of having bird flu – a fatal strain of flu which inflicted a number from Toronto – worried her. This thought, plus the crippling headache, made her call 911, Canada’s emergency services number. When doctors at St. Michael Hospital finally diagnosed her situation, that it was a ruptured aneurysm, they said, “You need an operation right away.” She did not realize it then, but it was a close-to-death situation.

Because bird flu was all over the news at that time, she was familiar with it. But aneurysm? She had never heard about it. Feeling so sick lying on the hospital bed, she could no longer absorb what the doctors explained. But she could tell that they seriously wanted an immediate operation. Her fellow ministry workers at JIL Toronto immediately went to the hospital to pray for her and give her moral support when they learned about her condition. It was also them who consented to the operation since Sis. Delia has no family in Toronto.

The operation took six-and-a-half hours. The doctors were bewildered with what was happening to Sis. Delia as they performed the surgery. She was talking in a “weird” language which they could not understand. And it was obvious that she was talking with someone whom they could not see. A nurse who was assisting during the surgery, also a ministry worker at JIL Toronto, heard a doctor said, “Someone is working with this lady.”

At the recovery room, the doctor told her, “You are a miracle lady.” It was only then that she realized how difficult the situation that she had been into. Her skull was opened to treat the ruptured aneurysm and the next hours were indeed very critical.

Sis. Delia told the doctor that she was “conscious” during the surgery. In fact, she was “conversing” with a “man” who was in radiant white clothes. The man was assuring her of his care as he spoke again and again the verse from the Bible, Matthew 11:28.

Sis. Delia spent 11 days at the hospital and subsequently, faithfully underwent medical monitoring for six years. She showed dumbfounding progress. As such, early on, doctors agreed that her case was indeed one miracle. The progress of her healing was something unique for medical books in Toronto. Recognizing the miracle of healing, and giving credit to Sis. Delia’s medical team, St. Michael Hospital did a documentary about her healing, trumpeting on the case as a “medical breakthrough.”

For Sis. Delia though, it was all about the miracle power of the Word of God! God’s Word personally spoken to her by the “man in radiant clothes” strengthened her faith and made her live: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28)

Since then she has never tired of sharing about the great miracle that she experienced. For those who have not yet received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, she says: “Miracles are true.” For Christians who are still waiting for their own miracle, Sis. Delia says, “Believe in the power of God’s Word. It is true, ‘Man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
