ADOPT-A-STUDENT
The power of a simple gift.
BACKGROUND
ADOPT-A-STUDENT started as a small effort to bring awareness about children in underdeveloped communities. This year, we would like to name the project GIVE-A-CHILD-A BACKPACK. It is one way of making a difference in a young person's education. Last year over 300 children received a backpack filled with school supplies from the project Adopt-A-Student. These backpacks are a symbol of hope and encouragement to continue going to school. Education is a proven intervention for improving the lives of all people, including children.
RATIONALE
Why do I need to support this project? Will it have an impact to the children I am supporting?
The UNICEF has shown that just 3 years of basic education makes a significant difference in family planning, health care knowledge, and in family's income. According to research, if a child appears at the school's doorstep without basic educational supplies, he or she is turned away. Sadly, this forces them into a life of illiteracy and perpetuates the cycle of poverty. Education has been found to have the greatest impact on health indicators, including the rates of infant mortality, life expectancy at birth and total fertility.
Thus, a school or health kit can make a positive difference and forever change the life of a child!
MISSION
To enrich the lives of impoverished children from select communities with backpacks filled with school supplies.
How much does each filled backpack cost?
Each backpack filled with school supplies cost us an average of P200.00. The backpacks contain erasers, pencils, pens, notebooks, folders, scissors, rulers, a sharpener, color pencils, crayons, and a pencil pouch.

One man gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.
A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.
